Crinniú na Ceirde - Gathering Craft
Unravelling an identity for Irish Craft.
A ‘gathering’ of craftspeople to discuss and explore new perspectives for Irish Craft.
Introduction:
Crinniú na Céirde Gathering Craft evolved from a series of conversations amongst the active craft community, on how Craft in Ireland was being portrayed and represented nationally. As the original founding body of the Crafts Council of Ireland, and a significant supporter of Craft in Ireland over decades, The Royal Dublin Society was approached with a view to hosting a discussion forum where creatives and makers could gather and discuss various ideas and concerns on Craft in Ireland.

Lets get talking
Crinniú na Ceirde – Gathering Craft is a bold new happening bringing together makers, artists, gallerists, curators, educators, writers, policy makers and activists with creative minds to unpack the complex, evolving identity of Irish craft in 2025. Taking place all over the country, these gathering offers a space for curiosity, reflection, and connection—in an atmosphere of respect and equality. People of all ages, abilities, race, gender and ethnicities are involved.
Creating conversations
Gathering communities
Crinniú na Ceirde—a gathering of makers, artists, and creative voices who wish to find a better way to bring equitable version of Craft in Ireland to the fore.
We are gathering to ask real questions:
What is our story?
Who is telling it?
How do we tell it?
Whose voices are missing from the conversation?
What does the future look like?
Its time to retell the story in our own words in our own way. No tokenism. No self promotion of agency staff. No panels full of the same names. Just honest dialogue, radical sharing, and an intelligent discourse on the real role of craft to Irish Society and culture.
Craft belongs to us those of us who are deeply embedded in it.
Come. Listen. Speak. Disrupt. If you want your voice to be heard, come to the table and be part of the conversation.
Gatherings are happening all around the country, get involved.
